In order to ensure a safe school environment for CCSD students, faculty, staff and visitors, all individuals serving as a volunteer with the Charleston County School District must complete an online application process, which includes a complete criminal background check which can be found at the following link: Volunteer Application. Effective immediately, all representatives/volunteers, including parents, who will or are likely to have unsupervised contact, or be left alone with students will be required to complete the CCSD representative/volunteer process through Human Resources, which includes an application and background check. Effective November 1, 2017, all volunteers who have regular contact with students OR who is likely to have ANY unsupervised time with students during school-sponsored events will be required to be fingerprinted and clear background checks through the CCSD. To be clear, this means that anyone 18 years of age or older who volunteers for the school 4 or more times in 1 month MUST complete the CCSD Volunteer Application Process, by completing the application, being fingerprinted and clearing the CCSD's background checks.

5 Policy and Regulation 4100 Senate Bill (SB) 287, a state law passed during the legislative session requires that CCSD representatives/volunteers have a cleared background check through Human Resources prior to beginning the experience/ service as a representative/volunteer with regular or unsupervised contact with any student(s) and every five years thereafter. In addition, any parent/guardian who wishes to chaperone a field trip, regardless of whether or not they are a regular volunteer , MUST complete the CCSD Volunteer Application Process, by completing the application, being fingerprinted and clearing the District's the background checks.
